Recently, Nepal has suffered a huge loss due to the Bhote-Koshi flood in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading. Over a hundred lives have been lost, and nearly a thousand are missing. The flood damaged a huge number of lives and property, as well as the major route are affected such as the routes for Langtang Region and Kailash Transit via Tibet, which is also the reason that the number of missing persons is rising. Even the famous Syabrubesi, which used to be the gateway into Langtang, is now no longer on the map.

The routes affected by Nepal-Tibet Flood

Due to the flood, the major transit for Langtang Valley and Kailash has been totally destroyed. So, travellers who were planning to trek the beautiful Langtang trail and the pilgrimage to Mount Kailash are recommended to postpone for a while until further notice. Alternative routes are also available, but with some uncertainties. Here, are the list for routes affected by nepal-tibet flood,

Langtang Valley Trek

It is really sad that one of the best transit points for travellers from all around the world to enter the Langtang Region, the Syabrubesi is now totally destroyed by the flood. Not only that, a huge number of local residents are still missing, and some have been rescued as of Aug 30. The number of loss of lives are unbelievable, and it is very hard to comfort us that the place which used to be one of the best stops during the unforgettable journey is now become the river bank.

Gosaikunda Trail

The main trail or the traditional trail for the Gosaikunda trail is now totally under the debris of the flood. The route which passes through Dhunche is heavily affected by the flood and is blocked by the authorities for the safety of travellers. Now the route has been re-suggested through Sisipu, Phedi, which later touches the Surakunda Pass, the checkpoint for the Gosaikunda Region. Still the re-suggested route is just for the travellers who are stuck inside the region during their ongoing journey, not for the travellers planning for Gosaikunda trek. Until further update/notice from the goverment officals, the trail remains closed.

Overland Kailash Route

The favourite route for the Kailash pilgrimage, the Rasuwagadhi transit, which was located just between the border of Nepal and Tibet, is also swept away by the flood, with hundreds of people. So, the border transit is also totally closed now from the both side.

Tamanag Heritage Trail

Due to the damage of major routes to get into the Langtang region, the trail, which shares a similar route to the Tamang Heritage Trail, is also affected or closed. The gateway to the Tamang Heritage Trek is also the same as the Langtang Valley Trek: Syabrubesi, which is totally damaged by flooding.

Helambu Circuit trail

As this major trekking destination shares a similar route as Langtang-Godaikunda-Helambu, the trail from the Helambu Circuit Trek is also affected. It is also closed until further notice. The recovery of roads is continuously going on.

Ruby Valley

Ruby valley lies inside the Dhading district, which is the major flood affected area, so it too is now closed and not recommended to travel, making it one of the major destinations closed or affected by the Bhotekoshi flood.

What now for travelling the Langtang, Gosaikund and Kailash?

The route for travelling the Langtang and Gosaikund as well as Kailash has now been totally closed until further notice. Also, the reconstruction and reframing of the route is going actively. However, travelling now to these three trails is not recommended. All other regions for trekking are open, and is normal as always to travel.

We also recommend not using any flood-affected trails for travelling, even if it's the plan of years for the trip. We wish that travellers in Nepal return safely with memories.
